The Office Of A Directly Elected Mayor In Cork May Not Receive Any Additional Government Funding

A directly elected mayor is expected to be paid around €130,000

City Hall say there is no indication that the office of a directly elected mayor would receive any additional funding from the government.

The local authority issued the statement to RedFM News following concerns that taxes may have to be raised or spending slashed to cover the cost which City Council says could range from €313,000 to around €450,000.

Lord Mayors are currently paid about €46,000 a year, while it's expected that a directly elected mayor would be paid around €130,000.

The plebiscite to decide whether or not to appoint a directly elected mayor will take place on the 24th of May.

Speaking to RedFM News, former Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald says some people are concerned about the cost of the proposal
