The Road Traffic Bill Has Passed In The Dáil Despite Opposition From Some Rural TDs  

The controversial legislation passed by 75 votes to 8 after months of heated debate and filibustering. 

The bill will see stricter penalties for drink driving, with first time offenders facing a temporary driving ban. 

It will also be an offence for car owners to allow someone on a learner permit, drive unaccompanied. 

There was bitter exchanges in the Dail before the legislation was passed with the Ceann Comhairle Sean O'Fearghail having to step in;
