The stories making the headlines across Cork this morning

An anti-lockdown protest in the city gets underway at 2pm today and organisers say they're expecting a significant turnout. 

A march will begin at the National Monument on Grand Parade before finishing outside Brown Thomas on St Patrick St where crowds will be addressed by a number of speakers who will call for an end to lockdown.

The event is being organised by the ‘Independent Campaign for TRUTH & Proper Public Healthcare' who say they want to raise awareness of people's rights and highlight the impacts of the restrictions.

Gardai say it 'beggers belief' that NIAC believe they're no more at risk from Covid-19 than staff working from home. 

The Garda Representative Association says their members are furious at being left off the priority vaccine list, and they've written to the Taoiseach asking why they've been abandoned.

Eight police officers have been injured following a riot that took place in South Belfast last night.

Police attended the Sandy Row area at 8pm where a small protest escalated into an attack on police.

Rioters threw a number of objects at officers, including metal rods, fireworks and manhole covers.

Joe Biden says he's 'heartbroken' to learn a police officer's been killed outside the US Capitol in Washington DC.

William Evans had served with the force for 18 years, when he was hit by a car which was driven into barricades outside the building.

Another officer's in a stable condition in hospital.

The suspect - who was carrying a knife - was shot dead.
