The chief medical officer says the rising number of Covid-19 patients in hospital is a 'cause for concern'. 

The figure has risen by 38 per cent over the past two weeks, and now stands at 54. 

397 new cases were also reported yesterday, with 16 Covid patients in intensive care. 

Dr Tony Holohan says the recent increase in hospitalisations comes less than two weeks after cases started to rise.

The Dáil last night heard calls for Britain to be added to Ireland's mandatory hotel quarantine list. 

Almost all restrictions will be lifted in England on July 19th - which the British government says could lead to 100,000 cases a day.

The HSE's online portal for Covid-19 vaccines opens for the 30 to 34 age-group today. 

34-year-olds can sign up for an MRNA jab this morning, with 33-year-olds tomorrow, down to 30-year-olds on Sunday. 

Under-35s can also opt to get a Johnson and Johnson vaccine in a pharmacy - with 80,000 jabs being distributed to outlets from today.

44% of student teachers have considered dropping out of the post graduate masters course. 

That's one of the findings of a new report that details the finances of 391 student teachers enrolled in the two year course at seven colleges in Ireland. 

Researchers found that 35% of student teachers were in serious or very serious financial difficulty, with many feeling the need to work 35 hours a week on top of their teacher training.
