Third-level students to take consent classes in bid to tackle sexual violence on campuses

Colleges will also introduce anonymous reporting tools and disclosure training as part of an action plan which is being published today.
They will discuss their progress with the Higher Education Authority each year with the aim of ending sexual violence and harassment in third-level.
Higher Education Minister Simon Harris hopes consent classes will be up and running in time for the coming academic year:
"I would have made a very clear statement last year that I'd like consent classes to be provided to all incoming students. I think there's a lot of evidence behind the fact that a student who's attended a concerned class really learned a number of things that stand to them right throughout their college experience in working with a number of institutions on that side, I'd echo that call again this year for all colleges to work to put in place consent classes for students, particularly incoming first year students, whether that's online or in person."
