Thousands Across Cork Taken Part In This Year's 'Darkness Into Light' Event

It's the second year that the annual fundraising inititiave by Pieta House has taken place online, without formal gatherings

The suicide prevention charity described the weather for Darkness Into Light as "challenging for a challenging year".

Pieta’s counselling services have remained available throughout lockdown with phone, video and face-to-face appointments.

Last year, Pieta delivered over 52,000 hours of therapy and answered over 70,000 calls and texts for help through their 24/7 crisis helpline.

In Cork alone Pieta saw over 2,500 clients.

Speaking to RedFM News, Darran Coyle-Garde of Pieta House says they're grateful for the support they received for this event as the impact of the pandemic will continue to be felt well into 2021:

" The struggles that people had, prior to COVID, are still there. For the most part, we find that people have day to day issues. But now when you throw COVID-19 in on top of that, we've all been in lockdown for the last four or five months now, and that's having a huge impact."
