Thousands Stopped Paying Mortgages After Discovering Home Wouldn't Be Repossessed

Thousands of people stopped paying their mortgages once they knew their houses wouldn't be repossessed.

A Central Bank report has found that the practice spiked after a 2011 High Court judgment blocking banks reclaiming houses.

 

According to the Irish Independent, some felt there was no incentive to continue to pay even though they could afford to.
