Three people due before Cork District Court charged with hacking and fraud offences

Three people are due in Court this morning charged with various offences including hacking via unauthorised access to computer systems and fraud.
They were charged following an extensive investigation by the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau are due before Cork District Court later this morning.
Two men and one woman were charged in relation to hacking the computer system of a company involved in vehicle parking systems. It’s alleged their actions led to financial losses for both the relevant council and the business itself.
It’s led to an appeal by Gardaí to People working from home during Covid lockdown to keep personal data separate from work data and to use encryption to protect information. People are also advised to back up data regularly and report any suspicious activity or messages.
The Garda National Cyber-crime Bureau are opening a satellite hub in Cork, in the coming weeks as part of the unit’s national expansion plan.
