A post mortem is due to be carried out later on the body of a three month old baby girl who died after a dog attack in Co. Waterford.

It happened in the village of Clashmore near the Waterford Cork border at around 2 O'Clock yesterday morning.

Emergency services attended the scene and brought the child to Cork University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The tactics used by Gardaí in Cork and Dublin over the weekend was a "necessary response", according to a representative body.

Shields and baton charges were used to deal with violence that erupted after large groups of young people gathered in Dublin.

A total of 55 arrests were made, 8 arrests in Cork on Sunday night, the majority of arrests over the weekend were in the capital.

In-person driver theory tests resume today at the 40 testing centres nationally.

The Road Safety Authority says it'll initially do 25,000 theory tests per month, increasing to 50,000 over time.

More than 120,000 people are currently waiting to take their driver theory test, after centres closed due to the pandemic.

Tens of thousands of Leaving Cert students are spending their last day studying ahead of the exams getting underway tomorrow.

The class of 2021 have the option of sitting the exams, accepting calculated grades or choosing both.
