Tourism in West Cork causing an increase in homelessness

The number of tourists visiting West Cork is causing a spike in homelessness in the area.

The increased demand for holiday accommodation in West Cork is causing many low-income households to be made homeless according to Novas homeless support services.

The Irish Examiner reports the group have never seen housing pressure like this before.

A spokesperson said that some people are being “pushed out” of the emergency accommodation they were temporarily living in during the off-peak season.

With the peak holiday months of July and August fast approaching it's anticipated the situation will get worse.
