Train Journey From Cork To Dublin Takes 7 Hours

Irish Rail has apologised after a train from Cork to Dublin took almost seven hours.

The train was supposed to arrive in the capital just after 7pm on Sunday - but a major mechanical fault between Mallow and Charleville meant it didn't pull into Heuston Station until 11pm.

Barry Kenny from Irish Rail says the fault also affected lighting and air-conditioning on board the train:
