Trainee nurses paid below minimum wage while on wards as interns

Calls are being made for the government to bring the wage of trainee nurses in line with the living wage.
The call comes as LIDL is to become the first big employer in Ireland to commit to paying the Living Wage of 11.50 an hour.
Trainee nurses Leeside have hit out at the rate they earn saying €6.50 per hour for 39 hour weeks is simply not enough.
Trainee nurses perform the same duties in hospitals as staff nurses in regard to patient care except for administering medication.
The INMO have submitted a proposal to the government calling for an increase in the wage, the HSE have yet to comment on the proposal.
Speaking to RedFm News, Dean Flannigan Student and new graduate officer with the INMO says the Haddington Road agreement dropped student nurses pay below minimum wage:
