Trauma service plan will deliver more staff, resources and funding for CUH Emergency Department

The €57 million plan for CUH and The Mater in Dublin will see CUH become a 'major trauma centre' for the south of the country.

The plan, which was first announced in 2018 by then Minister for Health Simon Harris, is being welcomed by staff in the Emergency Department who say patient care will be greatly improved by the reform.

Speaking to RedFM News, Emergency Medicine Consultant at CUH Professor Conor Deasy outlines what the new designation will mean for CUH:

"There's a requirement to invest in Trauma Services at CUH. What that investment looks like is extra bed capacity, extra space in our Emergency Department, a CT scanner in our Emergency Department, a helipad, the investment looks like ICU beds, extra theatre capacity. And of course, extra doctors, nurses, therapists, to improve the standards of care that are provided to those patients who are multiply injured."
