Travel difficulties are the latest obstacle stopping a controversial Oireachtas printer from being put to use

The printer was purchased over a year ago

The room intended to house the 1.8 million euro printer has been fully refurbished after it was originally too small to hold the machine.

Training of staff to use the state-of-the-art printer was due to be carried out by a UK company in March of last year.

Political Correspondent at the Irish Independent Cormac McQuinn says the British company did not offer remote training when the pandemic hit and and decided against travelling to Ireland:

"And then training began in the in the first or second week of March, just before the pandemic lockdown,  the first pandemic lockdown hit, and it had to be halted. The trainer, that carried out the work was based in the United Kingdom and Britain, and they haven't been able to travel over from from there since"
