The inquiry will also examine the circumstances of the Tusla file created against Maurice McCabe, which carried false allegations of sex abuse

The public tribunal of inquiry into allegations of a smear campaign against Sergeant Maurice McCabe will hold its first hearing tomorrow.

Judge Peter Charleton will give an opening statement at Dublin Castle before the tribunal spends up to three months preparing for public hearings.

The section of the tribunal dealing with Maurice McCabe is expected to conclude between nine months and a year.

Francesca Comyn, Legal Affairs Correspondent with the Sunday Business Post, says it's only 11 days since the terms of reference were agreed for the tribunal.
