Trolley figures down by more than 200 after hitting all-time high on Tuesday

A meeting of the Emergency Department taskforce is underway to discuss hospital overcrowding.

The numbers on trolleys hit an all-time high this week at 612 on Tuesday.

Today the figure stands at 395 - that's down by more than 200. Leeside 19 people are on trolleys in Cork University Hospital, 3 in the Mercy and 8 in Bantry General Hospital.

On his way into the meeting earlier, the head of the Health Department Simon Harris, said he wants to be the Minister who ends the crisis.

Nurses union, the INMO, meanwhile has warned they'll probably go on strike next month.

General Secretary Liam Doran says nurses and midwives have had enough and won't return to work until there's major investment in the health service.
