TUI Hit Out At Education Minister's Comments On Career Breaks

The Union says only 557 teachers out of over 30,000 second level teachers in the country are on career breaks
Only 557 teachers out of over 30,000 second level teachers in the country are on career breaks.
That's according to the Teachers Union of Ireland who have hit out at the Education Minister's latest comments about career breaks.
Richard Bruton said that his department would be advising school boards that career breaks should not be granted unless the school is in a position to fill the temporary vacancy that would be created.
He voiced concerns that some teachers are working full-time jobs while on career break.
However speaking to RedFM News TUI President Joanne Irwin says that's simply not the case and not the solution to the problem of teacher shortages:
