Two flood relief schemes in Cork in jeopardy

Two flood relief schemes in Cork may never get off the ground as finance for the works cannot be justified.
The Irish Independent has published an analysis of flood defence plans from the Office of Public Works which shows that the cost of completing schemes at Cobh and Dunmanway is more than the cost of the damages that might arise in a severe flood.
The cost of completing works in Cobh is €2.5 million but the damages would amount to €2.1 million and just 8 properties would be at risk while in Dunmanway 28 properties would be at risk with the likely damage estimated at €790,000 while the cost of the works would amount to €990,000.
It's expected the schemes will now have be revised or local protection measures will be completed by the local authority under the minor works programme.
