Two men charged in connection with attack on West Cork Garda Station

The two men in their early 20's, armed with a metal bar and wearing balaclavas smashed the stations windows earlier this week.

Timmy McCarty and Thomas Douglas, both with an address in Dunmanway were brought before a special sitting of Clonakilty District Court yesterday evening where they were charged with criminal damage at Dunmanway Garda Station on December 17th.

Mr McCarty was also charged with criminal damage to a launderette on Main Street Dunmanway on the same evening as well as four counts of dangerous driving, driving without insurance and without a driving licence on December 19th.

Both men were arrested at a house on Cousane Gap on Saturday morning along with a young woman as part of an operation involving Gardai from Bandon, Dunmanway, Clonakilty and the armed Regional Support Unit.

Gardai were not objecting to bail for either accused under the circumstances that they sign on three times a week, abide by a curfew, stay out of Dunmanway town and not interfere with witnesses.

The two are due before Clonakilty District Court on January 16th.
