Two prison Officers are assaulted while at work each week

That's according to figures released by the Prison Officers Association who raised the issue of personal safety with the Minister for Justice at their annual conference in Galway today
They have called for harsher punishments for inmates who assault prison officers, saying a zero tolerance approach must be taken.
The Tainaiste confirmed a new programme offering stress management, resilience techniques, and a support system for all Irish Prison Staff is due to be rolled out this summer.
Speaking to RedFM News POA representative Jim Mitchell says the Government has a duty of care to all prison staff.
