Type 2 Diabetes On The Increase Among School Children

Fears have been expressed about the growing prevalance of Type-2 diabetes amongst school children.
It comes as school uniform suppliers say there is now a demand for 46 inch waist trousers for primary school children.
One in four primary school children in Ireland are either overweight or obese and Hunter Schoolwear, which has been supplying shops for more than 40 years, says the demand for oversized uniforms is most acute in primary schools.
The Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute says the problem is not just about large clothing but the health risks that these children are exposed to due to their weight.
Speaking to RedFM News Dietician Louise Reynolds says some parents only realise there is a problem when Back To school and Communion time comes around and they struggle to find clothes to fit their children.
