UCC students reject proposed fee hike to supplement sports facilities

UCC students have rejected a proposed fee hike, saying they are under enough financial pressure as it is.

The proposed €50 increase would have part-funded a redevelopment of UCC's sports and recreational facilities.

Over 2,000 students on campus voted to reject a motion which proposed the increase be added to their annual capitation fee, bringing the annual total to €215.

The referendum would have more than doubled student's contributions to redevelop the facilities located at Curraheen, with new changing facilities, flood lights and upgraded 3G pitches.
