UCC Students' Union Not Surprised That Around 14,000 Students Have Applied For 'Hardship Grants' 

The Union are on day 13 of their Occupy the Quad protest

The protest began when UCC announced it would be increasing rent at five University owned student apartments by 3% for the next academic year. 

The student hardship fund is worth around €14 million a year and aims to help students across the country who experience financial difficulties while in college. 

The average payment over the past number of years has been between €500 and just under €1,000.
