UCC Students Union say drinking culture not just a Cork issue

UCC Students' Union say the drinking culture is a national issue and not just a Cork one.

The comments follow the news that Cork City Council is considering a proposal to restrict the opening hours of the campus bard during RAG Week and Freshers' Week.

The proposal is an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour among students but the union say it will have the opposite effect and just encourage more students to drink in residential areas.  

Residents living near the college have complained about noise pollution late at night due to parties, littered streets and drunken students wandering onto the roads during these union events.
