UCC SU: University Shirking Its Responsibility To Students Over The Cost Of Campus Accommodation
The comments follows a series of tweets posted by the President of UCC Patrick O'Shea in which he called for a 'national response' to the lack of student accommodation in the city.
Students and members of the Union have been camping on the Quad at UCC for a week in protest over a 3% rent hike at five university owned student apartment complexes.
UCC says the increase is due to a rise in the cost of operating the complexes and say they have already committed to waiving the increase for students in receipt of hardship funds.
Speaking to RedFM News, David Condon from the Students' Union at UCC says President O'Shea's comments missed the mark:
