UK Travel Ban Could Be Extended Beyond 48 Hours

Flights have been banned while ferries will only carry freight.
It follows a growing concern about a new strain of Covid-19 which is spreading rapidly in parts of the UK.
The EU member states will meet today to discuss its response to the variant.
Political Editor with the Irish Independent Philip Ryan says cabinet and NPHET will both meet in the coming days:
"...to review the situation and to look at what the international experience with the new strain is, what the data has shown them, what the ban on air travel actually does, does the two days have any impact on it? Or is it too late? Is it here already as most in government and public health already fear?"
