Unions at Bus Eireann may examine bringing in more drivers in Cork

Unions at Bus Eireann in Cork say the company may have to examine bringing in more drivers in order to keep services running smoothly.

Last Friday SIPTU claims that up to 17 Bus Eireann service runs from Parnell Place were cancelled or had to be provided by private operators due to the implementation of the "48 Hour Working Rule".

The company enforced the rule which means that no driver can work more than 48 hours from the start of the week leading into a Bank Holiday.

SIPTU has accused Bus Eireann of failing to plan for the reprecussions the rule would have on the travelling public.

The union's rep in Cork Pat Hartnett told RedFM News that he's unsure how the problem can be resolved.
