Up To 2,000 TUI Members In Cork To Mount Lunchtime Protest Today

The action is being taken to highlight pay inequality for newly qualified teachers

Up to 2,000 members of the Teachers Union of Ireland in Cork are to take part in a lunchtime protest at schools and colleges across the city and county today

The union says it may have to consider industrial action, unless the government deals with pay inequality.

There has been a 62% drop in people applying to become teachers as the programme  now takes 6 years of unpaid training  in order to become a teachers which is also acting as a deterrent along with the lower pay scale

The union is holding lunchtime protests about the issue at schools and colleges nationwide today.

Speaking to RedFM News TUI President Joanne Irwin says the protest will not negatively impact on students today
