UPDATE: Garda being treated for serious leg injuries at CUH following incident in West Cork

The Garda was dragged about 100 feet by a suspect in a car in Baltimore last night at around 8pm.

A man in his 20 was arrested following the incident and Gardaí seized around €8,000 worth of cannabis and cash.

A second man in his 30s was arrested and the suspected car involved in the incident was seized during a follow-up operation in Skibbereen.

Speaking to RedFM News, Virgin Media's Southern Correspondent Paul Byrne outlines what we know about the incident:

"Acting on intelligence at around eight o'clock last night Gardaí had set up an operation and when they noticed that two men were carrying out what they believe to be a drugs transaction they moved in. A car took off, and one member somehow unfortunately got stuck and caught in the car and was dragged what I'm told is around 100 feet up the road. Now, the getaway car swerved and the guard managed to free herself. She was taken to Bantry General Hospital, but later transferred to Cork university hospital after sustaining serious leg injuries."
