Urgent Call For 59 Additional Midwives At CUMH

An urgent call has been made for the immediate recruitment of 59 midwives for Cork University Maternity Hospital. The INMO has made the call amid growing concern about midwifery staffing levels at the hospital which opened seven years ago. A study conducted by the INMO found that there is a critical shortage of the recommended midwives to birth ratio at the hospital. Last year nearly 9,000 babies were delivered at CUMH by 243 midwives. AUDIO: Patsy Doyle of the INMO told Cork's RedFM that finances just have to be found to recruit more staff as she's fearful for patient safety. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
