Calls made for urgent work on Cobh Bridge

Calls are being made for urgent works to be carried out on a bridge in a coastal town Leeside.

Cork County Council heard claims that Slatty Bridge in Cobh is sinking with notable deterioration in the last 12 months.

Concerns have been expressed that the only other alternative route to the town would be unsuitable for heavy traffic if the bridge closed - and could lead to major traffic congestion.  

It's understood that the matter has been referred to the council's coastal management committee and it's hoped finances can be found for the works.
