Vera Twomey To Lobby Health Minister At Mallow General Hospital

A Cork mother says she'll be lobbying the Minister for Health when he visits Mallow General Hospital this morning.

Vera Twomey's daughter Ava suffers from a rare form of epilipsy and needs CBD cannabis oil to control her seizures - Vera has been campaigning for the legalisation of cannabis products for medicinal uses, so that her six-year-old daughter can have the oil prescribed to her.

The Aghabullogue Mum has now hit out at Simon Harris after a meeting she had with the Health Products Regulatory Authority yesterday where she claims she was told that Minister Harris had the ability to authorise a ministerial exemption for medicinal use of cannabis without prosecution.

A spokeswoman for the department of health said the Minister has no role in the process of prescribing cannabis based products, and that is a matter between doctor and patient.

However Vera told RedFM News this morning that she made known to the Minsiter her willingness to travel anywhere to get the oil as long as she was allowed back into the country with it and she was told that wasn't an option - she also say no one from the department of health will respond to her:
