Volunteer Clean Up Crew Established To Tackle Litter On Cork's Newest Bridge

Mary Elmes Bridge has been described by users as 'filthy' and calls are being made for the installation of bins

A volunteer clean up crew has been set up to tackle litter on the city's newest bridge which has been described by users as 'filthy'.

Cigarette butts, glass bottles, drinks cans, and loose papers are among the rubbish that is being dumped on the bridge on a daily basis. 

Every Sunday a team of volunteers meet on the bridge to clean however the group says bins need to be installed to combat the problem long term. 

Cork City Council say the bridge is cleaned twice daily in the morning and evening, and the local authority says there are six bins located within 100 metres of the bridge.
