Volunteer Lifeboat Crews Across Cork Coast Bracing For Busy Bank Holiday Weekend

Courtmacsherry RNLI are warning that a calm sea soon can become a cruel sea

They're reminding people to wear a lifejacket, have a reliable method of contacting shore and to tell someone what time they should be home at.

The RNLI, Coast Guard and Rescue Helicopter R117 were all called to incidents in Cork last weekend.

22 year old Conor King from Douglas also lost his life when he fell into a blowhole near Garrettstown Beach.

Speaking to RedFM News, Vincent O'Donovan from Courtmacsherry RNLI says people must use extreme caution when on or near the water:

"We all see the sea, sometimes, it's like glass, and it's calm. But a calm sea can soon become a cruel sea. So it's very important to check the weather and where the wind is going or where the wind is going for the next few hours. Look, I suppose the very big one is to never ever swim alone, and always ensure that somebody ashore is monitoring your progress, and just be aware of places that might be dangerous. Be extra careful is what we're saying."
