WATCH: This Dublin Man Opens Up About His Mental Health Struggles In This Emotional Video

The issue of mental health in Ireland is one that has been swept under the carpet for years but recently more and more people are coming out and speaking about their experiences.
Public figures such as Niall Breslin aka Bressie have opened up about their difficulties with anxiety and depression which is helping others to do the same. The issue of mental health needed high profile figures to act as a spokesperson for thousands who were silent about their mental health.
Doug Leddin, a 27 year old from Dublin, has shared his experiences with depression through an extremely personal video on his Facebook page. He uses the comparison of breaking a bone, where everyone is willing to help you with your bags or open a door and ask you how you are to the stigma surrounding mental health where nobody wants to speak about it.
Doug is visibly emotional throughout the video as he is being so honest about his experience. He apologises to his friends in the post for not opening up about "living two different lives" in all the years they've known him as a happy-go-lucky, confident guy.
The reaction to the video has been huge which goes to show that the younger generation in Ireland want people to speak up about mental health so that it becomes a normal thing to talk about, that you shouldn't be afraid of what people will think about you if you're willing to be honest about how you feel and people like Doug are the catalyst to a brighter future for the well being of the Irish population.
