Waterford Gardaí Launch Investigation After Pride Flags In City Burned Overnight

The flags were raised on Friday on the Mall to celebrate the LGBTQ plus community in the county as June is Pride Month
Mayor of Waterford Damien Geoghegan says they'll fly again at the same location, in the month of June:
"But I won't be deterred. As Mayor, it's certainly my intention to replace those flags, and to ensure that those pride flags will fly on the Mall in Waterford for the month of June. You know, people often ask the question 'Why is pride celebrated?' or 'What is pride all about?' Well that's the answer to it actually. It's because there are some people out there, and they treat people who are different, people who are members of the gay community, they look down on them, and treat them differently. It's unacceptable to me, and it's important that we show solidarity and I've no doubt but the overwhelming majority of people in Waterford will be upset by what has happened."
