West Cork TD Welcomes The President's Actions On A New Bill On Mother And Baby Homes

The President has signed the bill on sealing the records for 30 years but his action paves the way for any citizen to challenge the bill
A West Cork TD has welcomed the move by President Michael D Higgins to sign a new bill on the sealing of records on Mother and baby homes for 30 years as it allows any citizen to challenge the provision of the bill in the future
Some files pertaining to the commission investigating the homes will be sealed for that length of time under legislation from 2004.
The new bill will see a database transferred to Tusla, which survivors will be able to access.
Over 150,000 people have signed a petition to Unseal the Archives and the President says while he noted their concerns, the Bill itself does not directly raise a constitutional issue.
Speaking to RedFM News West Cork TD Holly Cairns says the people have spoken and this matter will not just go away
