West Cork Traders Counting The Cost Of Severe Flooding For The Second Time In Less Than A Week
Over 50 homes and businesses in Bantry were damaged and stock was destroyed last night after the river broke its banks in the townland of Seskin and left parts of the town underwater.
A culvert under the town also collapsed and destroyed sections of Main street and New Street by lifting it above the level of the footpath.
Council clean up crews are on the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the town.
Traders in Skibbereen were hit by a flash flood following Storm Ellen last week, prompting the Government to extend the Emergency Humanitarian Aid Scheme, which provides funding of up to €20,000 for businesses and groups who cannot secure flood insurance.
