West Cork village try to tackle rural isolation
It follows the closure of a number of facilities in the village.
A West Cork village is hitting back at the growing problem of rural isolation after the villages' last shop closed over the Summer.
Courtmacsherry once had it's own railway station, dance hall, cinema, petrol station and 17 shops but over the Summer Rita's Sweet Shop closed.
The shop sold everything from bread and milk to the newspaper and acted as a meeting place for people, now locals have to travel several miles to Barryroe or Timoleague for provisions.
Sean O'Farrell who has been living in Courtmacsherry since 1989, told the Neil Prendeville Show that the villages' 600 residents have come together to examine the possibility of opening a community shop which would be provisioned, run and managed by locals.
