Whitechurch locals say they will take their fight against plans to run M20 through their area to European Court

The 'No to Navy' group say three existing routes running through the Blarney area can handle the current level of traffic and say the money would be better spent upgrading the N20.

The group say the planning and consultation process for the proposed M20 Cork to Limerick motorway was 'a farce' and say they fear their communities will literally be divided by the proposed motorway.

Locals will discuss the matter on the 24th of this month in the Whitechurch/Waterloo Community Centre.

Speaking to RedFM News, 'No to Navy' chairperson Dee Hosford says people are afraid of losing their homes and farms to compulsory purchase orders:

"We have a gentleman whose home place was CPO'd for the existing N20 30 years ago. And if this motorway goes ahead, for the second time this man's second home will be pleased under compulsory purchase order. We have a family whose farm has been in their family since famine times. And they have a son, currently doing his Leaving Cert who wants to farm the family farm, and that farm will be cut into four, if this road goes ahead and will be completely unviable."
