Wives and partners of Cork members of the Defence Forces are travelling to Newbridge today to protest over the poor pay and conditions

The WPDF say the purpose of today's action is to raise public awareness of what life is like for the enlisted members of the Defence Forces in Ireland
One solider's wife broke her silence on the extreme hardship she and her family are facing as a result of the low wages paid to members of the Defence Forces.
She outlined how she has been forced to feed her children porridge for dinner and says the stress and anxiety over money leads her to having sleepless nights as she fears unexpected bills or their children getting sick.
Shelley Cotter from Cork has been protesting with the group on behalf of her husband and son who are both in the navy and she says stories such as these are typical.
Speaking to RedFM News she says the group have had to help families of Defence Forces members access state welfare.
