Woman dies in Direct Provision Centre in Cork
The death of a woman in the Direct Provision centre on the Kinsale Road Accommodation Centre has led to calls for changes to the system of Direct Provision.
The Korean woman, who took her own life last night, had been living in the Kinsale Road Centre with her six year old son.
Over 4,000 people are kept in Direct Provision in Ireland, with one in five of those there for more than seven years, as they await a decision on their citizenship status.
The Green Party's Lorna Bogue told RedFM News that she believes the woman took her own life due to the conditions she was living in and she's calling on the State to step in and ensure her son's citizenship application is fast tracked:
