Woman fighting for life after West Cork crash

The death of eight-year-old Zoe Scannell on a notorious accident blackspot in West Cork yesterday has sparked outrage. Locals claim there have been repeated calls to the National Roads Authority to upgrade the stretch of road at Owenahincha Cross in Rosscarbery where yesterday's fatal collision took place. An online petition has now been set up to improve the road which is described as a 100km/ph stretch with dangerous bends and multiple lanes used for overtaking in a place that has several junctions and blind turns. It is the fourth death on the stretch of road since 2010. The mother of the deceased Alisha Scannell is currently fighting for her life in hospital while five others involved in the collision were taken to the CUH where injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The woman and child from Abbeyfeale in Limerick were on holidays in the area. AUDIO: David Forsythe, Editor of the West Cork Times, says it's a dangerous stretch of road.
