Woman sustains serious facial injuries in Cork slash attack

She had just parked her car on Friar Street when a man began attacking her with a Stanley knife
A woman in her 20's had to undergo emergency surgery after she had her face slashed not far from the city centre early yesterday afternoon.
She had just parked her car on Friar Street around midday when a man approached her and suddenly began attacking her with a stanley knife or a similar type blade...
He slashed the woman across the face a number of times, causing her serious facial injuries
The woman was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for what one garda source described as "horrific injuries".
Gardai say they are keeping an open mind on the reason for the attack but they believe that the woman was deliberately targeted and have made an urgent appeal for witnesses
