Number Of People In Hospital With Covid Could Fall To 800 By The End Of The Month

New projections also show the numbers in intensive care might drop as low as 100.

There are 1,785 patients with the virus in hospital and 173 in ICU, according to latest figures.

Chair of NPHET's modelling advisory group, Professor Philip Nolan, says there could be significant progress if people follow the rules:

"We would expect, somewhere between 650 and 800 people total in hospital by the end of the month, even if things go well, and 100 to 120 people in ICU by the end of the month. We have to make it go well, we have to work hard. And if we do that, it's not going to be a rapid fall in the numbers of people in hospital. But to get from 1,800 to 800 in a couple of weeks will be a huge achievement."
