Sport Updates Thursday Afternoon

A list of confirmed postponements and cancellations, and upcoming announcements.

 

  • The IRFU have suspended all domestic rugby until March 29th.
  • Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions, the Republic of Ireland's squad announcement for the qualifier with Slovakia will no longer take place tomorrow. 
  • The Mardyke Arena UCC will close today Thursday 12th March at 6pm until the 29th of March. 
  • The GAA, An Cumann Camogaiochta and the Ladies Football Association have suspended all club, inter-county and educational level activity until March 29th from midnight. 
  • Cork City say they will be releasing a statement shortly - they're due to face Bohemians tomorrow night at Turner's Cross
  • The FAI are due to make an announcement this afternoon on "plans for all footballing activities under its jurisdiction after a meeting with Government, Department of Health officials and other national sporting bodies"
  • Derry City have confirmed their game with Sligo Rovers has been postponed
  • UEFA are set to review whether to suspend both the Champions League and Europa League due to the coronavirus outbreak.
  • Real Madrid's first team are in quarantine ahead of their Champions League last-16 trip to Manchester City next week. 
  • While Juventus defender Daniele Rugani tested postive for COVID-19 last night. 
  • The Schoolboys Football Association of Ireland is instructing all SFAI affiliated schoolboy leagues to suspend all football activities with immediate effect until further notice."
  • La Liga has been suspended
  • The Dublin county board have cancelled all training sessions and games
  • In ladies football the entire 2020 O'Connor Cup weekend has been cancelled
  • Basketball Ireland  confirmed last night that they have suspended all matches throughout the country.
  • The NBA has suspended its season in the US "until further notice" 
  • McLaren have withdrawn from the Australian Grand Prix, in the aftermath of a team member testing positive for COVID-19.
  • The Bosnian football federation has contacted UEFA requesting a postponement of their Euro 2020 play-off against Northern Ireland later this month.
