UCC students call for "no detriment" system
UCC say students will not be academically disadvantaged by the Covid-19 emergency.
A petition calling for the University to implement a 'no detriment' system has been signed by almost 3,700 people in just over two days.
The petition raised concerns the closure of the University has been stressful for many students who may not have adequate facilities to study for their end of year exams at home and is asking for grades to be calculated based on a final year exam combined with grades from previous years .
A spokesperson for UCC says the University will issue guidelines to explain how students will not be disadvantaged shortly.
Speaking to RedFM News, author of the petition Conall Williamson says not every student is able to prepare for exams at home.
"Reading some of the comments in the petition, there was one girl who was a mother to three kids.
"When you say "student" you think of people like me, the 21/22 year old college student.
"I don't know what plans UCC have for mature students, people who are care givers, in this situation."
