UPDATE: The ASTI directs members to teach classes remotely

The union says it will engage in remote teaching from Monday

The Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland is instructing it's members not to co-operate with plans by the Education Minister Norma Foley to re-open schools to Leaving Cert students for three days a week

The union says it will engage in remote teaching from Monday 

The ASTI says they have not been provided with the necessary assurances that schools are sufficiently safe for students and teachers at this time and say their decision is based on significant concerns on health and safety

The other teaching union the TUI says it is not safe for Leaving cert students to return to classrooms next week and the Principals and Deputy Principals Association says teaching Leaving cert students in class will pose risks to pupils and staff.

Leaving Certs in Cork have also raised concerns about returning to the classroom and many have signed petitions and say they will boycott the re-openings on Monday
