Aldo's Coach Pours Cold Water on McGregor Bout
Aldo out, Edgar in?
Jose Aldo's coach has poured cold water on the bout with Conor McGregor taking place on July 11th.
The internet was ablaze with rumours yesterday that the Brazilian was OUT of his UFC Title bout with Conor McGregor after cracking a rib in sparring.
And while no official word has come from the UFC, it would seem the prospect of the pair going toe to toe in Las Vegas is looking slim.
In an interview with Combate, which was picked up on by MMA Fighting, Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras said
"He cried. He wants this fight bad, everybody invested a lot in this.
"I was with him the whole afternoon. He’s heartbroken. He wants to fight anyway.
"If the fracture is really confirmed, Aldo will have to stop training, do nothing for three or four weeks until it’s fixed."
Pederneiras also said that if Aldo isn't cleared to fight at UFC 189 on July 11th, then it would be OCTOBER before he's fit to fight again.
So, that appears to be that. Unless, of course, this whole thing is an elaborate wind up to mess with McGregor's head.
According to this quote from Combate (translated to English by Google), this is what happened -
According to sources close to the information of José Aldo team, cleared by Combate.com , one of his teammates, the lightweight Alcides Nunes tried to apply a kick shot during the "sparring", but slipped and the blow hit the height Champion rib. Aldo, who arrived crying, left the training immediately in pain at the site, but no shortness of breath, which is common in injuries to the rib.
Hopefully the lack of shortness in breath is a good sign, but having never fractured a rib before, I literally have no clue about what I'm talking about.
So if it is indeed true, who to replace Aldo with?
McGregor has tweeted to suggest that he's fighting on the 11th regardless

Internet rumours immediately suggested that The Answer would be the answer, with Frankie Edgar himself adding fuel to the fire
Now THAT'S a fight I'd love to see. That would be an absolute blast. I'm a huge Edgar fan, and I'd love to see how McGregor would handle The Answer's boxing and footwork, and incredible work rate. It would be a war. And he's on for it too.
I'm told, if officially offered, Edgar would say yes to a fight against McGregor on 18 days notice.

Meanwhile, the last man to beat McGregor was straight in with an offer to step up, and make it Donegal v Dublin
If Jose is out I'm willing to step in and beat @TheNotoriousMMA again!! @ufc @danawhite

I've had to rule myself out though, as the Big Red Bench is on that night. That and trying to lose 30 pounds in less than three weeks doesn't sound like fun. But I'm confident that my rudimentary boxing skills and my one stripe on my BJJ white belt would make McGregor think twice about taking a fight with me anyway.
Dear @danawhite, please rule me out as a replacement for Aldo. I have to present the @BigRedBench that night.Sorry.Get @FrankieEdgar instead

Dana White meanwhile has told everyone to relax. Either that or he was listening to Frankie Goes To Hollywood at the time.
Relax everyone

Either that or it's an elaborate clue. Relax... Frankie Goes To Hollywood... Frankie Edgar Goes To Vegas... Frankie Edgar is the Answer... The Answer is Frankie Edgar... Finkel is Einhorn...
As for the Notorious one himself, he kinda had an inkling something like this may happen when asked about it in Dublin a few months back.
Will the bout happen? It's looking unlikely at this point. But until the UFC officially confirms that the Brazilian is out, then we'll continue to hope. And if Aldo is out, please please please make McGregor v Edgar happen. That would be fun. And after McGregor beats him, the Dubliner can fight Aldo in New York in December. You heard it here first.
