Cork's Caoimhín Kelleher set for competitive Liverpool debut

Cork's Caoimhín Kelleher is in line to make his competitive debut tonight.

The former Ringmahon Rangers goalkeeper is set to start for the reds away to the MK Dons in the League Cup.

The Ireland under 21 international has been Adrian's understudy in recent weeks, following the calf injury picked up by Allison Becker.

Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders said that the 20 year old was in line to start this evening, and praised the young goalkeeper at yesterday's press conference.

"We didn't let him go on loan at the start of the season because we felt that he is ready to be involved in our goalkeeper set up. He was injured at the start which was difficult as we wanted him to have a super pre season and play more games for us.

"He looks good now, he's ready for it that's for sure. He has unbelievbable speed reactions, he is good on the line. But what he has and what makes him really special in my opinion is his build up play. He's calm on the ball, understands the game, can play inside, can play outside.

"There's a calmness over him even in the 1-V-1 situations, he's a talented goalkeeper."

Kick off at Stadium MK this evening is at 7.45

You can watch Lijnder's press conference below - he speaks about Kelleher at the 17.50 mark.
